In the past few years the world of crochet has been elevated.  No longer is crochet thought of as square doilies and something that "older ladies" do!  It is fashionable to crochet and it has no age or gender boundaries.

Knitting too has seen a revival in popularity, especially for Amigumi figures, bags, keyrings as well as clothing, hats, scarves etc.

One of the most popular  crochet and knitting crafts is Amigurumi which is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn pieces.

The word is a mix of the Japanese words ami, meaning "crocheted or knitted", and kurumi, literally "wrapping", as in nuigurumi "(sewn) stuffed doll".

While the art of amigurumi has been known in Japan for several decades, the craft first started appealing to the masses in other countries, especially in the West, in 2003.^[3] Since then the craft just keeps growing as we all become quite literally....hooked!
