The Marriage of Materials: Why Texture Matters

The Marriage of Materials: Why Texture Matters

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a "Hook" meets "Heritage."

This week in the studio, my hands have been busy with two very different worlds. On one side, I have the Dragon Scarf—a project of rhythm, persistence, and the chunky, tactile joy of the crocodile stitch. On the other, I have been immersed in the ethereal, luminous world of Au Ver à Soie silk.

The Common Thread You might wonder why MillyRose Atelier dances between a playful crochet dragon and 19th-century French silk. The answer is simple: Texture.

Whether it’s the way the "scales" of a scarf catch the light or the incredible lustre of a silk-wrapped dragonfly, crafting is a sensory experience. The "Hook" (crochet) gives us the structure and the meditative rhythm, while the "Heritage" (silk and linen) provides a connection to the artisans of the past.

Expanding the Palette I am thrilled to announce that our Heritage Collection is growing. We are introducing the Au Ver à Soie Discovery Packs and the Historische Stickmuster Explorer Kits to the Atelier.

These aren't just supplies; they are an invitation to experiment. Just as I had to push past my hesitation with the crocodile stitch, I want to encourage you to push past the "intimidation" of silk. You don't need to be a master to use master-quality materials. You just need the curiosity to see how they feel in your hands.

What’s on your needles or hooks this week? Are you playing with bold textures or delicate threads?
