The Anatomy of a Perfect Summer Tote
Artisan Crafting: Elevating a Summer Classic with Couture Finishes
As the weather warms up here in Calp, our minds naturally turn to light, bright, and functional pieces that capture the spirit of summer. This week at the Atelier, we officially cut the final threads on our latest personal project: the Hand-Crocheted Summer Tote.
While a mesh market bag is a seasonal staple, we wanted to approach this design through the MillyRose lens—combining a beautiful, sustainable everyday pattern with high-end, artisan finishes.
The Materials: Sustainable & Local The foundation of this bag is all about eco-conscious texture. We used the wonderful DMC Eco Vita Size 4 recycled cotton yarn, marrying a vibrant, multi-tonal rainbow palette (Color 393) with a structured, earthy olive green base (Color 08).

We are incredibly lucky to have sourced both the pattern and the gorgeous yarns from our wonderful local shop right here in Calp, Lana Magica (Carrer la Pinta, 2, locale 6). Supporting local independent shops is an absolute pillar of our community, and their selection never disappoints.
The Luxury Details: Inside & Out To elevate this tote from a simple market bag to a true daily accessory, we focused heavily on structural integrity and finish:
-
The Full Lining: Traditional mesh bags have a habit of letting small items slip through the gaps. To solve this, we fully lined the interior with a crisp, vibrant mint green cloth, finished with flawless French seams. The bright lining acts as a stunning backdrop that makes the exterior crochet work truly pop.

-
The Double Romanian Cord Handle: Instead of standard straps that stretch and fray under the weight of your beach book or market finds, we crafted a double Romanian cord handle. Measuring a comfortable 66cm, it offers substantial strength, a gorgeous rounded texture, and stays securely on the shoulder.

-
The Dimensions: Perfectly proportioned for daily use, the bag stands at H:33cm x W:23cm with a D:8cm base.

Make It Yours (Or Let Us Make It for You!) If you are local to the Calpe, we highly recommend popping into Lana Magica to pick up your supplies. However, if you are reading from afar and want to tackle this stunning summer project yourself, send us a message! We would be absolutely delighted to help arrange a custom yarn and pattern shipment sent straight to your door.
Alternatively, if your hands are full with your own projects but your summer wardrobe is missing this exact pop of colour, MillyRose is open for custom commissions. We can hand-craft this fully lined, couture-finished tote just for you.
